How to post a free Craigslist Post?

Follow the steps below to submit a free post to craigslist without using an account.

If you want to post using a craigslist account, go to your account homepage. Select a city from the dropdown at far right, click "go," and follow the steps below starting with step 3. (If you have trouble finding the right craigslist site, visit our list of available sites, and choose the most appropriate one.)

Please note that the steps may vary a bit depending on the category of your post.

Choose a catefory for your post

1. Visit our Homepage, craigslist.com
   • Make sure the location named at the top is where you want to post.
   • If the location is not correct, visit our list of available sites, and choose the most appropriate one.
2. Click "post to classifieds" in the "Account" dropdown menu
3. Select a Category for your post
   

   Depending on the type of post, you may be asked to choose additional categories

   • In "for sale" you can select a more specific category (such as "bicycles - by owner").
   • In some cities, you may select a subarea (e.g. "manhattan") and neighborhood (e.g. "SoHo").
   Create your post.
4. Enter the texr for your post
   

   This page will vary depending on the category of your post. Important fields include:

   • posting title: your post's name. It will appear in the main list of posts.
   • posting description: the body of your post.
   • reply to: the email address you want to use for responses. Please enter it twice.
5. When you are finished writing your post, click "continue" at the bottom of the screen
6. In some categories you will have the option to add images to your post.
   • When you're finished adding images, click "done with images."
   Confirm and Submit
7. Make sure your post looks right.
   • Confirm that your email address and the location of your post are accurate.
   • To make changes, click "edit text" or "edit images."
   • If everything looks good, click "publish."
8. You will now need to confirm your post via email.
   • When the system says "further action is required," check your email for a message from craigslist.
9. Open the email from craigslist, and click the confirmation link.
   • If you are unable to click on the link, try copying and pasting it into your web browser.
   • You may be asked to review the terms of use or confirm your phone number.
   If all goes right, your post should appear on craigslist about 15 minutes after your confirmation.

All craigslist postings are free, except for:

• Job postings in selected areas - $7-75 (fee varies by area)
• Brokered apartment rentals in NYC area - $10
• Various by-dealer categories in the US - $3-5
• Cars/trucks by-dealer in the US, Vancouver BC - $5
• Furniture by-dealer in the US, Vancouver BC - $3
• Therapeutic services in the US - $10 (reposts of live ads $5)

Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.

Paid posting accounts provide additional payment options in many cases.

Q: The reply button won't open.

A: We have received reports of the reply button not displaying a pop-up menu when clicked. Users have reported success in fixing this issue by taking either of these steps:

* Check the add-ons that are installed on your Internet browser. (An add-on is a browser extension, or a piece of software, that modifies the browsing experience.) You can view your browser's add-ons by navigating to the Tools or Preferences menu and clicking on Add-ons. You can disable any unfamiliar add-ons one by one until the button works.

* Check to see if you are navigating the web using 'Private Browsing'. This setting can be found in the Preferences menu of your Internet browser. Unchecking this and re-starting your web browser may resolve the issue.

When replying to a post you'll see an address like: abcde-0123456789@sale.craigslist.org

When answering an email you'll see an address like: rcc9la26d7534400a6a03514c34f9200@reply.craigslist.org

Use your email program as you normally would.

PLEASE NOTE: The real name field (e.g. Jane Doe) in your email program is passed through to the recipient. Any contact information in the body of your message will pass through unaltered.

Editing and deleting craigslist posts

• If you want to make changes to your active craigslist post, you can edit it. When editing a post you can change the title, description, images, and category.
• You can remove your post manually at any time by choosing the delete option. Please note that all craigslist posts will expire automatically after a certain amount of time has elapsed.

If you have already completed editing or deleting a post and the changes aren't appearing, try refreshing the page.
